A couple of research : Mainly, I was interested in learning about the mechanism of the piano and somehow relate it to how the brain processes emotions. At one point, I even wanted to make a surreal film...there is an abstract part though...dun dun dun!

I haven't been able to update lately and I feel somewhat rebellious these days. 2010 is here, so i'll make an effort of posting my work in progress. My film will probably be my only priority in the next 3 months. Hooray! My non-social life begins (insert sarcasm). Ok...let's just diverge from this topic.

New Year was different. As I was located somewhere in Montreal, this was the first time that I actually felt frozen. You would think that it only happens in films but I actually had flashes of moments in my life. I heard the countdown echoing loudly in my head but as soon as it hit one... I was in a bubble. As if my head was in a bottle (use your imagination here), my vision became blurry, and my hearing was enclosed from my current environnement. *No, I did not intake any illegal substances* well alcohol...that's about it. I froze until someone held an arm around me. It probably lasted 2 seconds in real time. The importance is what I saw in that moment. I won't go into details but I did see many faces. Faces of people in my life. People come and go but sometimes there are just those that you can't seem to forget or have ignored/never thought of... maybe even taken for granted in the past years. At that moment, I questioned myself. I was standing there and all I could think was...I miss them. My sense was awaken, the feeling has caught up with me because I've never allowed myself to feel the seperation. I don't want to dwell in the past, but I'll take it as a lesson and will further acknowledge the presence of certain individuals in the future.

The point is... don't take people for granted. Someday it will haunt you...

So, why is there a picture of "PILATE"! The theme of this song is accurately how I felt frozen. Take a listen, it might awaken you inner self.

I killed my "Vans"

So much...for trying. I had an old pair of checker Vans that were due to be thrown out. I decided why not recycle it. I sprayed gesso on the shoes and just doodle with permanent markers. Gosh...I killed it. Everything went pretty much wrong... first the damn "spray can" that clogged every 1 min and then my 2 darn black markers kept dying on me...my patience was "done". This project was due to be doom.

Next time, i'll just buy a pair of white "keds" and some acrylic paint markers!!! Save me from all these problems.

Experimentation : I did drawings by using acetates.

I've painted acrylics on it and overlayed the sheets together.

Then, I scratched on the surface instead of drawing.

It was fun working on these little pieces.

I need to find a job "rapido presto" because as time goes by...I'm slowly getting bored of the normal routines.

STOP MOTION

Preliminaire sketches. I decided to do a sheep for my stop motion project. He is a wannabe superhero. I liked the idea of playing around with opposite traits. Instead of being the typical scared sheep... why not make him brave but at the same time silly. His duty is to save a pure innocent flower.

Making the puppet : The armature is simple, I only used wires and epoxy. The body and head are made out of Model Magic ( to keep it light ) Finally, the shoes are made out of Fimo. The only problem I have with my puppet are the legs, they are difficult to manipulate and they get wavy. Gaahhh. Don't worry he will have a little cape :)

Building the set:

Getting into character.

Little props : Barns made out of paper, aluminium foils, brochette sticks, ink and acrylic.

Fence : basic materials : wires and tooth picks.

We used Astroturf for our grass. The bushes are done with easter grass product that I bought for 0.75$ at Zeller. Hooray for easter!

I believe I can fly...

This did not come out well...the shading is badly executed but I don't really care. I'm tired of wanting things to be clean. I guess this drawing represent the state of mind i'm in. I'm on break and I'm happy :)

I'm slowly developing a "selfish" attitude...it's good to please others but at some point I need to focus on myself. I've realised that I give out so much and somehow never thought about my own needs/priorities. I've got to learn to value my own time. First step is to "Say No".

Say hello to my little buddies!

I was tired of working on an architectural project for draw 200...so I drew mini characters in order to escape my mind from the assignment. The liberty of drawing whatever ...what a relief! I'm starting to really enjoy drawing again . I almost forgot how fun it was.

I usually like the clean outline look but I'm starting to dig the messy/sketchy style. A change can do me good.

"Continuation"

The first drawing is something I did last semester for my Lithography class. I have to say it was quite painful to do marks making on stone. The process of actually getting the stone to have an even surface...2 damn hours of polishing... you end up with a numb arm...and it doesn't end there. I'll spare your time by not explaining "the etching" + "printing" procedure. All in all, I'm happy to have learned this art form of printing. So, instead of taking the simple path for the 2nd semester...I'm making my project complexe ( see 2nd drawing) Yes. Indeed. Suicidal. I'm considering doing it on Fuji plates (easier than stone) so that I can add colors to the drawing. Contemplating.

In the meantime, I did some sketches. I'm changing habits and I don't really know if it's a good thing. I used to have so much patience when I draw... now I just want to finish it quick as possible. The "zen" quality of taking your time and having deep focus on lines/details are slowly vanishing...and is quite troubling me. Somehow...the way you draw is base on certain characteristics of your inner self. Or, might just be how i'm feeling at the moment. On another note, I'm starting to have a weird fascination for eyewears.
